My friend and colleague Kathy Mallary over at The Inspired Markether tagged me over three weeks ago, and I am only just getting around to finding out what that means.
Here’s how Kathy explains it:
[Blog tag is] sort of like a cross between Tag and Truth or Dare, except without the Dare part. When you’re “it”, you have to share 5 things that people probably don’t know about you, and then you tag 5 more bloggers.
This presents somethign of a challenge on two counts. First, my claim to fame is that I use my own experience — especially my confusions, mistakes, misconceptions — as a laboratory in the hope that it sheds some light that will be useful to others. In other words, there’s not a lot that readers don’t know about me.
Second, there’s something about tagging five folks who then tag five folks that makes me dizzy. Still, these 5 things come to mind:
1. I’m recovering from repetitive strain injuries in my neck, arms, and hands. Years of peering maniacally at books, knitting, and computer monitors have played havoc with my body. I’m learning to use a new keyboard and voice recognition software, and I find it very difficult to wean myself from the habit of using my laptop for blog posts or other writing.
2. I love to sleep in. Most of my life I have been an early riser, and these days I absolutley adore sleeping in. Go figure.
3. I haven’t sent Christmas cards in more than 25 years. That’s not strictly true, as I have sent the odd card to an inlaw (twice) or to clients. But by and large, I prefer to send cards and gifts when the spirit moves me .
4. I hardly ever read these days. Books, that is. I still buy them, and they stack up around my office until I shelve them or give them to the library. For years I read four or five books a week, but these days I find myself disinterested in acquiring more information. I still experience the impulse, which explains why I buy books, but when it comes down to spending my time with them, I’d rather garden, blog, sleep, or solve Sudoku while listening to an audiobook — usually fiction.
5. I’m a recovering addict and alcoholic. 23 years ago — but who’s counting? — I was graced with the realization that my light was about to go out. Getting clean and sober and staying that way has been a tremendous gift, and I see it as probably my truest “credential” as a teacher and coach.
Okay — now I’m to tag five other bloggers. I’ll tag one.
